2023 國立清華大學東非國際志工團

服務計畫簡介

東非志工團於2008年成立至今,結合清華大學資訊、自然科學專長的優勢, 從一開始以提供電腦硬體設備、建立電腦教室作為服務起點,至2023年間,我們持續導入了電腦軟體相關的教育課程,並將教學系統、教材等傳承,培養學校老師、當地的大學生為種子,期望藉由學生的力量,讓教學在我們離開之後得以延續,提升當地資訊教育的風氣。
團隊在台飛國際志工交流協會的指導下,發展科丁程式教育計畫,與台灣科丁聯盟合作,翻譯Scratch程式教材,在當地學校成立科丁社團、並提供程式教育課程,今年首度舉辦跨12校的一日Coding競賽-Symposium,期望能夠點燃當地學生對程式的熱情!
此外,我們也開始嘗試與社區教育機構合作(Bunyala-Hub、Nyeri-Institute),讓電腦教學拓展至高中生以外的族群,人人都有機會接觸電腦,使電腦效益極大化。

 

服務成果

因疫情影響,遠端服務的這兩年中,團隊除了檢視過去15年的服務成果,也重新探索如何配合當地的新課綱、加入新的課程規劃,如SCRATCH程式語言等。同時,也改善教學模式更符合在地需求,使肯亞資訊教育環境更進步!這趟旅行,我們走進肯亞,完成了下列重要的任務:
 1.運送120台電腦
 2.建立 5間電腦教室
 3.指導 8間學校授課
 4.拜訪 15間學校
 5.舉辦 1場跨校競賽
 6.服務超過1500人

 

未來展望

延續這次的服務,成員將持續傳承訪查的資料,記錄各學校的電腦狀況及需求,藉由研討實際走訪蒐集的回饋,看見新的服務機會與改善服務方針。在服務的日子裡,我們珍惜得來不易的機會,與當地師生建立友誼的橋樑,將台灣的傳統節慶、飲食文化等帶至肯亞,透過文化的交流更貼近彼此,期盼未來能持續運用分級輔導制度,優化在地學校的資訊教育環境,根據基礎設施、課程、師資及政策四項重點,作系統性的分析,找出各校潛在需求,並協助其更有效率的應用資源,使整體計畫不只停留在短暫而立即性的回饋中,而是能長期經營,且達成永續發展的目的。

 

Planning Progress

The volunteer group was established in 2008 and has been operating since then. With the strengths of expertise in information technology and science studies from National Tsing Hua University, our journey began with providing computer hardware equipment and establishing computer classrooms as our initial services. Over the years, we have progressively introduced computer software-related educational courses. We have also worked on the continuity of teaching systems and materials, preparing local school teachers and university students as seeds of knowledge. Our aspiration is to empower teaching through the efforts of locals, ensuring the continuity even without us being there, thereby enhancing the local culture of information education.
Under the guidance of the TAISA (Taiwan Africa International Service Association), the team developed the coding educational program, in collaboration with the Taiwan Coding Education Association. We translated Scratch programming materials, established coding clubs in local schools, and provided programming education courses. This year, we organized the Symposium, a one-day coding competition across 12 schools, aiming to ignite the passion for programming among local students.
 
Service Benefit
Due to the impact of the epidemic, during the two years of remote service, the team not only reviewed the results of the past 15 years of service, but also re-explored how to meet the new curriculum, and added new course offerings, such as the SCRATCH programing. At the same time, the team also improved the teaching mode to better meet the local needs, so as to make the Kenyan information education environment more advanced! Throughout this trip, we immersed ourselves into Kenya and accomplished the important tasks:
1.Deliver 120 computers
2.Establish 5 computer labs
3.Instruct 8 schools 
4.Visit 15 schools
5.Organize 1 inter-school competition
6.Benefit over 1500 students
 
Future prosepects
To continue this service, members will continue to pass down the information from the visits. With records of the computer status and needs of each school, members will keep exploring new service opportunities and improve the methodology by studying the feedbacks. During the service days, we cherish the hard-earned opportunities to build up friendship with local teachers and students, and bring the traditional festivals and food culture of Taiwan to Kenya, so as to get closer to each other through cultural exchanges. We hope that in the future, we can continue to make use of the tiered counseling system to optimize the information education environment of the local schools. With a systematic analysis based on the four key points, namely, infrastructures, curricula, teachers' qualifications, and policies, so as to identify potential needs and assist the schools to be more effective. Based on the four key points of infrastructure, curriculum, teachers' qualifications and policies, we will conduct a systematic analysis to find out the potential needs of each school and assist them in utilizing the resources more efficiently, so that the overall program is not just a short-term and immediate operation, but will also be able to carry out a long-term basis and achieve the goal of sustainable development.
